Another route from the pen of Ian McGregor.

The Route...

OS map 42
Total Distance 35 miles

The route is a good introduction to the Dalwhinie, Loch Ericht and Loch Laggan area, taking in some easy cycling on track and setting the scene for other routes in the area.

Park near the railway station - it's alright you won't lose your car amongst the commuters - and cross the railway. There is a telephone at the gate to check that it is safe to cross.

The route goes through Ben Alder Estate which has always made outdoor people welcome, provided they showed due respect for the needs of the estate. Please ensure that you do not abuse the privilege and we will all continue to be welcomed.

Take the track along the side of Loch Ericht to the newly rebuilt Ben Alder Lodge and turn right, climbing up towards Loch Pattack.

Continue north along the side of the river Pattack to (547 852) where there is a junction in the track. Go left heading towards Coille Doirath and then turn east along Loch Laggan towards Gallovie.

Return to the junction via the falls of Pattack and back to Loch Pattack and Dalwhinnie.

This route takes only a few sentences to describe but the trip could be talked about for weeks, the scenery and setting are superb with a new aspect at almost every corner.
